Edelstein Celebrates 50- Our offices through the years

In our firm’s 50 years, we have been located in three different offices in Boston.  Even though we have clients and relationships all over the world, our base is intentionally in Boston.  It means we get to spend more time with our clients and colleagues.  When our firm was founded in 1968 by Managing Partner Alan Edelstein and Partner Walter Goldstein, they had been working separately in the same building at 1 State Street. Walter was on the 5th floor as a sole practitioner and Alan was on the 13th floor with several employees. They formed their partnership office, Edelstein & Company, at 1 State Street opposite of the old State House.  Interestingly, their suite has been once occupied by former Governor Paul Dever. Alan had his old office. Edelstein also had a second office for a period of time in New York City on 64th Street.  “When you called our New York telephone, it also rang in our Boston office,” recalls Edelstein.

Former Managing Partner, Jerry Jarasitis reflected on the time at State Street- before there were cubes and offices, staff would be in one open space with desks lined up. Files had to be stored separately on the 15th floor, “The people at 1 State Street really had a good time with moving files,” Jarasitis recalls. At one point, they were “cramped tight and starting to grow. We expanded as much as we could at State Street.”

The office was moved to 24 School Street in 1990 and remained there for nearly two decades.

In 2009, Edelstein & Company moved to 160 Federal Street which is where we are currently located, in the heart of Boston’s Financial District.  The office was exactly what we needed to accommodate for our growing headcount.  In 2016, we broke ground to double the size of our space.  Not only did we have plans to add room, we were going to incorporate our new brand into the remodel as well.  We pulled in the colors of our new logo, the small ‘e’ that appears in our logo is now incorporated throughout, and all of our office and communal spaces were given a breath of fresh air.  Click here to read more about our renovation. “You really cannot appreciate this place unless you were at 1 State Street. It’s night and day,” says Jarasitis.

“We’re proud of the way our office provides a warm and welcoming environment to clients and staff alike. We value the deeps roots we have planted for our firm in the great city of Boston,” says Edelstein’s Managing Partner, Scott Kaplowitch.
